The Hongkong Prize is an innovative competition that recognizes students for their extraordinary achievements in extracurricular activities, as well as encouraging more well-rounded education for them. Winners receive cash prizes as well as access to Hong Kong research facilities.
A panel of judges selects the winner of the Hongkong prize each year. It goes to the student with outstanding overall performance in any subject – academic or non-academic activities alike. This award serves as an outstanding way of showing recognition for past accomplishments while motivating future accomplishments.
Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited established this award in 2022 with the purpose of attracting world-class scientific talent to Hong Kong and supporting forward thinking scientists in creating an active innovation and technology hub. The prize recognizes pioneering efforts of individuals or teams from a variety of science and technology fields such as artificial intelligence/robotics/life/health sciences/new materials/energy, advanced manufacturing/FinTech etc and serves as an incentive to continue innovative exploration while serving both their nation and contributing globally.
Every prize field reward will be presented annually to no more than five persons or teams; no individual may win more than once in any five year period. Each applicant will be judged based on his or her scientific research achievements, their implementation in society benefit, as well as any positive impacts created by their work.
Winners will also receive HK$2 Million in cash, a certificate, and trophy. In addition, they may visit one or more top research institutes within their chosen field in order to receive additional professional training and mentoring by experts at that institute.
The Hongkong Prize was created to commemorate Professor John D. Young’s passion for Hong Kong history and belief that an education should include study of its local history. It provides students with recognition they deserve while encouraging them to explore various aspects of its historical development. Furthermore, raising public awareness of local history studies in Hong Kong becomes easier. A Public Vote Prize of HK$10,000 will also be awarded for students receiving the most votes from members of the public.
