Five Hong Kong scholars from universities across Hong Kong have been recognized with this year’s BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize 2024 sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited. This prestigious award honours researchers for their innovation in research breakthroughs that helped transform R&D outcomes in Hong Kong. Winners in artificial intelligence/robotics, life/healthcare/new materials/energy sources/advanced manufacturing/fintech will each receive a cheque of HK$2 Million as prizes.

Chinese netizens were outraged by these awards, many citing how unfair it was to reward such biased and one-sided reports. On Sina Weibo many comments were highly critical with one reading “If those protesters were American citizens they would have been shot by police officers”.
The Hong Kong Philarmonic Orchestra (HKPO) received a Grammy Award for Best Classical Album – Choral/Chorale, honoring their outstanding musical achievements and contributions towards producing Wagner’s Ring Cycle as part of a complete box set production. The Hong Kong Prize for Innovation in Arts, Culture and Education competition will launch its inaugural iteration this 2022. Aimed at encouraging young people to persevere in innovative exploration while excelling in their chosen field(s), with the ultimate aim of inspiring them into becoming experts within Hong Kong and contributing to both nation and world development, The HKPA will provide prize money and work closely with key partners to identify awardees; application deadline is 31 July 2022 with any resulting results being reported back by October.
